Faith Like a Child

6:30 PM

I am currently learning how to live life through the eyes of a child.  My three year old is always smiling.  I'm am not exaggerating. His days are spent smiling, gasping, breathing deep, and soaking up every last drop of joy.  He is energized by creation and enthused to learn.  He laps up ever opportunity as if he were a thirsty pup.  He is thirsty, thirsty for knowledge, beauty, and adventure.

Eagerly he asked me, "What lives in the top of those trees?". "I don't know baby." "Awe mom, birds and parrots and squirrels.  Do you see them?" He shrugs his shoulders and flings his hands as if to say I can't believe you don't see them! His imagination runs wild and free.

He isn't restrained by harsh realities of life.  He just sees and believes. Even if there isn't an animal at the top of the tree, he has faith and the most lovely, alive imagination.  The images he sees are so real, even tangible.  He sees the birds, animals, even if I do not.  He sees them in his heart and mind. They become alive as he speaks them out.  We, adults, call this pretend, but to him the animals are as real as the wind blowing on my face.  He has faith.  Faith that sees what he hopes for.

This is real faith, faith like a child.  I don't want pretend faith.  I want child like faith.  Faith that sees and believes.  Faith that dreams and watches it come to pass right before her eyes! Faith not limited by hesitant unbelief.  A faith that can imagine and simply believe. A faith that sees what others cannot.

Eager for what everyday holds he is the first one out of the bed.  I wonder what my faith would be like if I were as eager as he was to arise and begin imagining and sitting with the Creator.  Soaking up knowledge and wisdom from His heart instead of social media. (Ahem, Facebook)

He has faith today is going to be a good day. Care free, not burden down by what he's going to wear, eat, or any of those things.  He simply lives life to the fullest.  The only thing he worries about is not skipping a beat or not taking a nap.  Afraid he will miss out on something I have to quiet him down and make him rest.

In our busyness if we are stress free or stressed to the max our Father calls to us. He stills our hearts and tells us that we need to rest.  Rest from moving around looking.  Rest from chasing the next big thing or adventure.  Us carefree personalities need to learn to rest. As well as the stressed to the max who hurry through the day checking off their list never stopping to take it all in and see the beauty all around right in front of them. We find ourselves wishing we had more time or worked somewhere else or were further along in life.  I can hear him say to both of us,  "Be still and know I am God. Be still. Just be. I will quiet you with my love.  I will sing over you.  I will rest with you.  Don't you know it is finished the beauty you are franticly chasing after is right here with me. Come and be my child.  Have faith like a child and just believe and trust I will bring my plan for your life to pass."

  1. Laura, THIS is how God wants us to live - carefree, worry-free, stress-free because HE HAS US. Oh! if we could just "get" this - really get it and live free like your little boy! And, tell him Miss Susan always sees the squirrels and birds up in the branches of those trees. I do hope you have introduced him to the Chronicles of Narnia - sounds like he would already enjoy them, especially The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe!!!! All those talking animals! xoxo

    1. Lisa, thank you! Boy do I ever struggle with this one. I am a planner and I have been learning so much about trusting the Lord with my life. When I can't control my circumstances there is such a relief knowing that I can trust the one who is Sovereign and is in control. He is never caught off guard.
