Oceans of Tears

8:27 PM

Purpose. Place. Passion.  You, lost dreamer, I am writing to you tonight.  As my oldest lay in our bed, he picked the worn book up and asked me to read him Noah’s Ark.  I am positive the ONLY reason he asked for this story, is because it involves ANIMALS as some key characters. :) He LOVES animals, all kinds, even porcupines!

Having read the historical account several times, and having heard Noah’s story as a child countless times, I was sure that I knew all the in’s and out’s of this story.  There was one tiny, well HUGE detail in particular that stood out.  Noah, his wife, his sons, and their wives along with the animals were on the ark, but for how long?

It rained forty days and forty nights.  I don’t know about you but I can get stir crazy at the thought of being in my house for more than two days straight without leaving.  I think, I just assumed that after forty days Noah sent the raven to find dry land.  NO.  Can any of you guess (without looking it up) how long they were actually in the ark?!

Eleven months.  I know you are thinking, “ok, ok, but what does that have to do with me, the lost dreamer, my purpose, my place, and my passion?”  EVERYTHING.
Here Noah and his family are in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight.  LOST. FLOATING.  FORGOTTEN.  I wonder how many days, weeks, months went by before he started feeling hopeless, alone, misplaced or forgotten.

Thankful for the Animals
I wonder how he felt during those ELEVEN months.  Have you ever felt this way?  As though you are floating in a sea of tears, lost behind all the laundry, hair misplaced, dishes piled in the sink.  Forgotten, behind the scenes sweeping floors, cleaning up a potty trainng accident-gone bad, REAL bad with popcorn on top.

I want to take a moment and encourage you; you are not alone, not misplaced, not forgotten.  You have a place, purpose, and passion.  Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

He has good works for you to complete.  These works will vary throughout seasons of life.  For eleven months, Noah’s season was to float on oceans of grace.  To be still, and trust.  There was literally nowhere else he could go.  I have a feeling he probably spent a lot of time on the top deck looking out feeling utterly lost.

Maybe you are on the top deck looking out hopeful, perhaps you are on the bottom deck feeling hopeless.  Nonetheless HE HAS A PLAN.  HE HAS GOOD WORKS for you to complete.  Some days they will be completed through a phone call, email, text, blog, Facebook post, Bible study, quiet time, folding laundry, craft time with your babies, cleaning floors, teaching foundational principles in your children, hugging your little ones, kissing your husband, listening in class, preparing for a test, obeying your parents, the list is endless.

Find your passion, and you will find your place in His purpose for your life and don’t be to shocked if it looks a lot different than you had dreamt.  I’m sure Noah’s perspective of life, purpose, and God’s plan for his life changed the minute he was asked to build an ark.  After he had completed that good work there was still eleven months he was aimlessly floating.  However, it was TRUST and OBEDIENCE that landed him on a mountain of promise.

Praying for you tonight lost dreamer, the one floating on oceans of tears.  YOU are REDEEMED for a purpose and continue to TRUST and OBEY for there is NO other way, but to TRUST and OBEY.  Your oceans of tears will land you on a mountain of promises.

  1. Thank you for sharing. Your intro caught me, because I am a dreamer. I have never thought of Noah in those terms. I like the reminder that it is trust and Obedience that land us on the mountain of promise.

    1. Angie, the waiting can be very difficult, this is a true test of the contentment of the heart, at least for me anyways. The waiting also helps produce perseverance and hope. It is important for us to remember seasons of life and not to wish life and time away. Take advantage of what we have in the here and now and give thanks while being utterly satisfied with His goodness. :)
